Decoration of the Christmas tree can vary from home to home depending upon how one wants the Christmas tree to look like with varying color and style theme. Early Christmas trees were often decorated with apples, nuts, cookies, gingerbread, colored popcorn and candles. The Christmas tree decorations include colorful ribbons, ornaments, glistening garlands and blinking lights. But no matter how the tree is decorated it still symbolizes a timeless Christmas tradition of families gathered together and exchanging love, care and of course presents!
Lights
Clear or multicolored lights can be selected to decorate the trees. It mainly depends upon the color scheme you have decided for this Christmas. Clear or white miniature lights are the best as they complement any colors used for ornaments or other make christmas tree decorations. But multicolored strands give a traditional and festive look. Strands of a single color go well with certain theme trees. A general rule about the number of lights is-one foot tree should have about 40-50lights. Remember to keep the amount of light uniform, without any unfilled spaces. A pre-lit Christmas tree would be great idea as it is also easy to store.
Ornamentation
Ornamenting the Christmas tree is just easy. You can choose anything for ornaments-cards ribbons, balls, bells, dolls, stockings, personalized ornaments, stars even some handmade ornaments work great. Tinsel can also be considered as a decoration. Strands of it can be hung from the branches to simulate icicles. They should be hanged in clumps from the edges of the branches. You can also add a garland to your Christmas tree decorations either traditional or beaded one. You can double swag your garland and form it into a spiral garland.
Some basic tips to keep in mind before and while decorating the Christmas tree are:
- Decide whether you want a natural tree or artificial trees. A natural tree needs a lot of maintenance. To make sure it looks green and fresh, place it in a stand that has a large water reservoir.
- When decorating the tree, put on the lights first, then garlands and then the ornaments.
- Don't hang all your ornaments on the tips of the branches. Place ornaments and other decorations 'inside' your tree to add depth and interest.
- Arrange Christmas tree lights on the branches near the base of the tree first. Then weave strings of lights along the branches "inside," and move to the outer edges of the branches.
- The color scheme of the decorations should go best with the color of the tree and should compliment with the decorations around the house.
- When decorating with glass balls, remember to put larger ornaments at the bottom of the tree and the smaller ones at the top. This gives a pleasing proportion to the decorations of the tree
- The base of your tree should be covered with a colorful tree skirt so that the gifts underneath rest on a pretty background. This makes the wrapped gifts look even more festive, and looks good after the presents are unwrapped too.
- A tree topper is a must. It can be any of the Christmas motifs-angels, snowmen, Christmas star, large bow and even teddy bears, anything you wish!
- Theme trees are very popular these days. So pick any theme to décor your tree and personalize the decorations accordingly.
