Christmas Movies

Christmas is the favorite time for movie lovers as well as the moviemakers, as one gets to watch delightful Christmas movies while the other gets to make fast bucks by making a movie based on the topic of Christmas. Since the starting of the movie world, many movies have been made on the subject of Christmas. Some movies talked about the real

meaning of Christmas, while some talked about Santa Claus, some talked about the family gatherings while some used Christmas background in a weird manner for making creepy movies.

Most Christmas movies are intended to leave the audience feeling good after viewing, and almost always have a happy ending. Other films have been set during the Christmas period but do not have Christmas as their theme. Often such films are planned for release during the lucrative Christmas-New Year's holiday season when filmgoers traditionally take in movies in large numbers. So here are some of the best Christmas movies of all times with some relevant information about them.

Black Christmas

"If nothing else, Black Christmas will always be remembered as the inferior older brother to Clark's other Christmas flick, the Tito of the Jackson clan" - By Ryan Cracknell.

Well Black Christmas directed by Bob Clark is a Canadian horror movie, which can be described as a creepy horror movie set at the time of Christmas. The movie stars Olivia Hussey who plays the role of a young college student who needs to deal with a psychopath killer lurking in her house. Margot Kidder, Andrea Martin, John Saxon and Keir Dullea portray the other characters in the movie. The story of the movie has been written by Roy Moore while the music of the movie has been done by Carl Zittrer.

Black Christmas is known for the use of dark corners, off-kilter camera angles and the music score by Carl Zittrer for creating a claustrophobic experience for the movie audience. The budget of the movie was calculated to be around $620,000 and the movie was shot around Toronto during the winters of 1974. When the movie Black Christmas was released in United States, then its name was changed to 'Silent night, Evil night'. The simple reason behind this change of the movie title was that the director was afraid that the audience of United States would take it to be a movie based on African Americans. Despite the name change the movie could not do well in United States. So, its name was again changed to Black Christmas and was again changed to 'Stranger in the House' for the purpose of TV broadcasting.

The story has been set up during the time of Christmas when every one is rejoicing in the splendor of the majestic occasion. At this time some girls in the sorority house start getting creepy obscene calls, which they first ignore but have to take them seriously as the intensity of these calls increase. None other than a psychopath who has entered the sorority house makes these calls. After some time a town girl and a sorority sister go missing and the police gets involved in the incident. The police team is lead by a legend played by John Saxon who must find and stop the killer before he manages to strike again.

Family Christmas

Family Christmas or popularly know as 'A Muppet Family Christmas' is a popular 1987 Christmas television series which had Jim Henson's Muppets as the cast of the movie. Family Christmas can be categorized as family, musical and a comedy flick, which had the potential of keeping the entire family, hooked to the television screen.

The cast of the Family Christmas includes Caroll Spinney, Gerry Spinney and some Muppet performers like Jim Henson, Frank Oz, David Rudman, Dave Goelz, Richard Hunt, Jerry Nelson, Steve Whitmire, Kathryn Mullen and Karen Prell. Family Christmas or 'A Muppet Family Christmas' is the only Muppet production to feature the Muppets connected with all the four major Muppet franchises, which are 'The Muppet Show', 'Sesame Street', 'Fraggle Rock' and 'Muppet Babies'. These can be seen as actual puppets in this series.

The plot of Family Christmas revolves around Doc who in order to escape the city life decides to spend his holidays in the country area. The house he gets to stay in is owned by Fozzie Bear's mother who is herself planning to go to California for Christmas. Fozzie bear surprises his mother by bringing the entire Muppet gang to her farm for celebrating the holidays. The Sesame Street regulars like Big Bird, Bert and Ernie and others also join the celebrations. Even Doc and his dog Sprocket also end up joining the holiday festivities with the Muppets. Since the music rights of the series have been secured only for the television so the recent music videos release of the movie leave out the two musical numbers as well as four scenes. This editing has brought about many abrupt changes in the movie.

The reviews of the movie have been a mixed bag. While some people and critics found Christmas Vacation to be a nice and better movie of the Vacation series, some critics especially Roger Ebert found many flaws in the movie, which forced them to give a less ranking to the movie.

As far as the story of the Christmas Vacation goes, it starts with Clark Griswold going out on a search of a perfect Christmas tree. After many accidents and a sequel of the comic activities the Griswold family is able to find the perfect Christmas tree. But Clark forgets to take the saw and with much difficulty they are able to dig out the tree from the ground. What follows next is another comic sequence of the Griswold family trying to get the tree back to their house. As the Christmas approaches, many members of the Griswold's extended family start arriving at their home. Thus the Griswold family gets busy with all kinds of preparations like the lights and food. The scriptwriter has used these preparations for creating comedy in the movie. Then the Christmas Eve arrives and all kinds of miss happenings start taking place in the Griswold household like Clark's uncle burns down the Christmas tree, the uncle's cat kill itself and instead of the much awaited bonus check all Clark gets is a membership card for a club. Well the director has managed to create much comedy out of these incidents and has tried his best to give a nice comic flick to his audience.
