Christmas Vacation

Christmas vacation (1989) is the third movie in the National Lampoon series of vacation movies. This movie is preceded by two more movies by the name of Vacation (1983) and European Vacation (1985). The movie has been directed by Jeremiah Chechik and Charles Picerni Sr while the genre of the movie is comedy.

The total duration of Christmas Vacation is about 1hr 37minutes and the cast of the movie includes names like Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, Beverly D'Angelo as Ellen Griswold, Johnny Galecki as rusty Griswold and Juliette Lewis as Audrey Griswold.

The other supporting roles in Christmas Vacation are played by Randy Quaid, Miriam Flynn, Brian Doyle-Murray, William Hickey, Doris Roberts, Diane Ladd, Mae Questel, E.G. Marshall, Cody Burger, John Randolph, Sam McMurray and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The reviews of the movie have been a mixed bag. While some people and critics found Christmas Vacation to be a nice and better movie of the Vacation series, some critics especially Roger Ebert found many flaws in the movie, which forced them to give a less ranking to the movie.

As far as the story of the Christmas Vacation goes, it starts with Clark Griswold going out on a search of a perfect Christmas tree. After many accidents and a sequel of the comic activities the Griswold family is able to find the perfect Christmas tree. But Clark forgets to take the saw and with much difficulty they are able to dig out the tree from the ground. What follows next is another comic sequence of the Griswold family trying to get the tree back to their house. As the Christmas approaches, many members of the Griswold's extended family start arriving at their home. Thus the Griswold family gets busy with all kinds of preparations like the lights and food. The scriptwriter has used these preparations for creating comedy in the movie. Then the Christmas Eve arrives and all kinds of miss happenings start taking place in the Griswold household like Clark's uncle burns down the Christmas tree, the uncle's cat kill itself and instead of the much awaited bonus check all Clark gets is a membership card for a club. Well the director has managed to create much comedy out of these incidents and has tried his best to give a nice comic flick to his audience.

Christmas Vacation is followed by Vegas Vacation, which is till now the last of the Vacation series to feature "National Lampoon's" in its title.
