Arthur Cohn

Arthur Cohn was born on the 4th of February in the year 1927 in Basel in Switzerland. The first period of the life of Arthur Cohn was spent as a journalist and an author. But his keen interest in films led him to lead an altogether different life of a producer. Arthur Cohn's first success as a producer came with a movie titled as The Sky Above, The Mud Below.

The film was released in the year 1961. The 60s decade brought many success to Arthur Cohn. During the later part of this decade Arthur Cohn teamed up with the famous filmmaker Vittorio De Sica. He worked in most of the films of Sica. The list includes popular works like A Place For Lovers, We'll Call Him Andrea, A Brief Vacation, and The Garden of the Finzi-Continis. This last mentioned movie won an Oscar and it was released in the year 1971.

Arthur Cohn got Oscars in the category of Best Foreign Film for his work in the films Black and White in Color and then also for Dangerous Moves. These movies were released respectively in the years 1976 and 1984. The plots of the movies were excellent and that was why they were highly acclaimed by the critics. Black and White in Color had a plot based on a satirical anti-war story and the location of the incident was the Ivory Coast in Africa.

The movie Dangerous Moves was a production with the help of a French production company. The story of the film was based on an incident of an international chess competition where great chess champions like Michel Piccoli and Liv Ullman were the rivals. Arthur Cohn also tried his hand in documentaries. The first documentary in which Arthur Cohn worked as a producer was The Final Solution which was released in the year 1983. The documentary featured the study of the Holocaust during the Nazi movement.

American Dream, released in the year 1990, was another memorable documentary produced by Arthur Cohn. One Day in September , the documentary film fetched yet another Oscar for Arthur Cohn in 1999 and the total number of Oscars won by Arthur Cohn raised to five. Some other all time great movies produced by Arthur Cohn are Les Choristes, The Children of Huang Shi and Yellow Handkerchief. Boston University awarded him Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts. Arthur Cohn is still working hard in his field and apart from being a celebrity in the world of entertainment, he is respected and followed by all the upcoming producers. Arthur Cohn is the only producer who has a star in his name in Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
