The famous and one of the most loved actresses in the history of Hollywood is Julie Andrews who was born as Julia Elizabeth Wells in 1935, 1st October to Ted Wells a woodwork teacher and Barbara Morris Wells a piano teacher. Ted and Barbara got divorced and Julie was brought up by her Step father and Barbara who were now into the same profession. Julie Andrews took music lessons from her step father Ted Andrews and then from Madame Lilian Stiles-Allen which groomed her for the future stardom. Julie also participated with Ted and Barbara in their acts in England. She took to singing in the radio initially on a duet with Ted Andrews and then graduated to solo singing. In 1947, she made her stage debut in 'Starlight Roof' featuring the other famous comedians as well.In 1947 Julie was rejected by the British division of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, who claimed that she was unfit to be filmed. Julie made her TV debut appearing in a BBC TV program known as 'Radiolympia Showtime'. One of her other regular programs was 'Educating Archie'. She played the role of Humpty Dumpty in a pantomime.

Julie gave her voice to the feature film 'The Rose of Baghdad'.Julie had auditioned for the role of Eliza Doolittle in the movie 'My Fair Lady'. Rodgers and Hammerstein in March 1957 wrote the musical Cinderella for Julie. In 1959 Julie was married to Tony Walton and in 1960 she played the Queen Guinevere in the Lerner and Loewe production Camelot. She also played Mary Poppins for which she won the Academy Award for the best actress in1964. This movie also got her the first Golden Globe Award for the Motion Picture Actress in a musical comedy. Julie gave her first dramatic performance in the movie The Americanization of Emily.

Julie reached the zenith of her career with the movie 'The Sound of Music' where she played the role of Maria which earned her the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in The Sound of Music. Few of her other movies are, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Star, Hawaii, Torn Curtain and Darling Lili. She was the first actress to receive the prestigious award of British Academy for Film and Television Arts' special Tribute Award. (BAFTA) in October 7th, 1989. In 1998 she gave her voice to the talking parrot in Doctor Dolittle and the parrot also sings in the song 'Talk to the Animals'. The beginning of 21st century saw her featuring in the movie 'The Princess Diaries'.
