Russell's film career got kick started at the age of ten. In the Elvis Presley starrer "It Happened at the World's Fair" Russell showed some spark. At the age of 12 he became famous as a child actor. The lead role of the protagonist, orphan Jaimie in the TV serial, "The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters" established her as a really talented actor. Soon after that this series won the audience's heart. Immediately after that Russell was signed to a ten-year contract with the Walt Disney.
In Robert Osborne's words there he was established as the "studio's top star in the '70s". Russell acted in many of the films under the directorial venture of Disney, like, "Follow Me, Boys!" in 1966, "The Strongest Man in the World" (1975), "The One and Only", "Genuine", "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" in1969, and "Original Family Band" (1968), etc
As Elvis Presley in John Carpenter's ABC-TV movie in 1979, he gave a classic performance. A stream of meaty and well-performed roles followed. Used Cars (1980), The Thing (1982) and Silkwood (1983), Escape from New York (1981) are some of the marvelous examples of outstanding performances by Kurt Russell. In 1983 he met Goldie Hawn and both of them worked together in Swing Shift (1984). The two started living together since then. The movie was a disastrous failure.
After a series of disappointing flops Kurt managed to bag Tango & Cash (1989), that's again after Patrick Swayze was dropped out. Dennis Quaid was the first choice for the role in Backdraft (1991) which was offered to Kurt Russell. These two roles played key role in re-establishing him as a box-office hit. Russell and Goldie Hawn live in a 72-acre retreat, Home Run Ranch, outside Aspen. He has 2 sons, Boston Russell from a short-lived marriage to actress Season Hubley and Wyatt Russell from Goldie Hawn.
