Mary Astor

The Academy Award winning actress Mary Astor was born in May 3, 1906 and had an interesting and enterprising life as a media personality and a human being. She was mostly persuaded into acting by her ambitious parents and she debuted as a silent film actress and her stunning looks were to take her places in the near future. Theydeserveit brings more information for you on biography of Mary Astor.

After she starred in Beggar Maid in 1921 Astor appeared in Beau Brummell in 1923 opposite John Barrymore and again they came together in Don Juan in 1926. She had a romantic affair with John Barrymore. She had perfected her vocal technique in several stage productions Edward Everett Horton's Los Angeles-based Majestic Theatre so that she didn't get victimized by talking-picture revolution. One of her most famous role was The Maltese Falcon (1941) where she starred as Brigid O'Shaughnessy opposite Humphrey Bogart. She began her motion picture career in the silent movies of the early 1920s.

In the midst of a divorce suit in 1936 her ex-husband to gain custody of their daughter made her affair with playwright George S. Kaufman public by exposing her diary and things began to fall apart in her personal and professional life as well. But Sam Goldwyn then-current employer permitted her to complete her role in his production of Dodsworth in 1936. Her other famous movies were released after this divorce scandal subsided and the world saw her once again as Brigid O'Shaughnessy in The Maltese Falcon and as the highly aggressive concert pianist in the The Great Lie and she won an Academy Award for this.

As she grew older she graduated towards the roles of snobbish mothers with her stereotype role as murderer Robert Wagner's slow-on-the-uptake mom in A Kiss Before Dying in 1956. She had been an aspiring writer and in 1959 she wrote her autobiography, 'My Story', which went on to become a best seller. In this book she discussed about her life but interestingly not about her movie career. She came out with a memoir in 1971, 'A Life on Film', in which she discussed her film career.

She decided to retire after the movie Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte in 1966 as she fell victim to health ailments and financial issues. Few of her other famous movies are, Red Dust, Convention City, Man of Iron, and Prisoner of Zenda which helped her surge her way to the top. She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Sandra Kovac in The Great Lie in 1941. Her troublesome personal life did have an adverse affect on her professional life as she was getting small roles in the movies at one point of time. She breathed her last on 25th September, 1987.

Her biography and her memoir is a testimony to her struggling life and will inspire any one to make a life their own against the odds of the nature. Find out more about Mary Aster's achievements as theydeserveit keeps you updated with her biography.
