Black Hair Care

Black Hair Care Black Hair Care Black Hair Care
Black Hair is distinctly different in texture from Blond or Red hair and therefore needs a slightly different hair care regimen. For one, relaxers to a certain extent are good for Black Hair but only if applied by a professional stylist as they can do a lot of damage over time if applied carelessly. Treat your hair like an expensive silk robe, you would wash that with the utmost care so ensure that you do the same for your hair. African hair does tend to be dry because the texture and structure prevents the essential oils
from getting to the tips from the roots. Another problem is that when black hair is curly or frizzy it tends to be prone to damage through breakage.

Before you sleep at night, either tie your hair into a plait or wrap it up in a scarf so that the hair is bound up together instead of loose, the reason for this is that it will prevent your hair from breaking during the night and more importantly it will be easier to remove the tangles in the morning. Ensure that the scarf you use is made of satin and use a satin pillow cover as well. All of this sounds rather dandy and unnecessary but fact is that constant rubbing against a rough cotton pillow cover can cause your hair to develop split ends resulting in broken stands of hair. For this purpose it is essential that you avoid direct contact of your hair with rough materials.

Avoid washing your hair more than twice a week as this can dry your hair out. If you must wash it more than that use natural products, shampoos can even be made at home using products that are beneficial for your hair. The best time to remove any tangles from your hair is while you are conditioning it. Your hair is wet and smooth then so it's relatively easier to run a comb through and untangle the knots. Since your hair is dry and frizzy, it is a good idea to oil it with a natural moisturizer like shea butter, oil your scalp for healthier hair.

Do a hot oil treatment at least once a month. This would involve massaging your scalp with warm almond oil infused with beneficial herbs. Rub the oil gently into your scalp, avoid rubbing too hard as that can lead to breakage. Massage the entire scalp thoroughly as well as the neck and areas behind the ears. Thereafter, soak a towel in hot water, wring it dry and place it around your hair for around 30 minutes. This treatment works like magic and immediately softens your hair. You may want to leave the oil overnight. Similarly, deep condition your hair once a month.

Avoid using products that contain clogging agents like petroleum jelly as that blocks your pores and prevents oil from reaching the roots of your hair. Even if you are not shampooing your hair, always apply some leave in conditioner after washing it. Try avoiding straightening irons or hot curls, as heat is very damaging for your hair. Also try to find a style that suits your hair instead of opting for styles that would require your hair to undergo intense chemical treatments. Learn to work with what you have.
