Make sure your hair is thoroughly wet before you shampoo it, this ensures there's less breakage. Use only a quarter-sized gallop of shampoo and do not lather for more than 30 seconds as that will lead to dryness. The most common faux pas we commit is washing out hair with hot water after shampooing. This closes the pores; allowing no moisture into the roots, so wash your hair with cool water to retain the moisture. If you get your hair colored then wait for at least 48 hours before shampooing because each time you wet your hair, the cuticle opens so give your hair time for the color to set in properly. If your hair is dry and frizzy give it a hot oil treatment at least once a month. The best oil to use for this purpose is olive oil or almond oil. Make sure your hair is clean and then apply the oil to towel dried or damp hair. Soak a towel in warm water, wring it dry and place around your head for about 30 minutes. This helps to soften your hair and give it the much-needed luster and shine.

I your hair is oily, the first thing you need to do is sort out your diet because fact is that oily hair is the result of eating too much fatty food. Introduce greens and fiber in your diet and then wash your hair at least twice a week with a mild shampoo. Don't tug or pull or rinse too hard. Be gentle and condition it after every wash. Don't be lazy about shampooing because if the dirt residues are allowed to stay in hair they cause split ends and breakages and the oily texture makes it easier for them to stick to the scalp. Moreover you can also get skin disorders like acne on your chest, face and back if you do not look after your oily hair.

Air dry your hair as far as possible as constant exposure to too much heat can cause the hair to become dry, dull and weak. For this reason, you ought to stay away from the blow dryer, straightening iron and hot curls as far as possible. Get your hair trimmed regularly to avoid split ends, and ask your stylist to suggest the best hair care products for your kind of hair.
