yummy snack foods are always irresistible and after a tough day at school, nibbling on pre packaged snacks is a major pastime for many children. But kids actually need snacks. There is a biological reason behind it. Their stomachs are small, so they often can't get all the nutrients they need in a day through meals alone. They need smaller portions of food more often. So, Kids Snacks not only satiate their palates but also fill their tummy. Prepackaged snack foods which are high in calories and low in nutrients, are immensely popular amongst the kids. But Kids Snacks are not necessarily bad. The content of your kid's snacks is what matters. So, instead of giving your kids pre packaged snacks, treat their taste buds with home made snacks.
For instance, stir granola with non fat vanilla yogurt for a creamy and crunchy snack. It's not always easy to persuade your children to eat healthy snacks but you can slowly inculcate healthy food habits in them. You can't expect your kid to be content with boiled cabbage and yogurt. Kids love to munch appealing and yummy foods. So offer similar choices. For example, don't say "Do you want chocolate wafers or do you want potato chips?" Instead, suggest comparable choices, such as regular or frozen yogurt, celery or carrots, crackers or fresh fruits. Select snacks from a variety of food groups. Remember change is the spice of life. Don't serve the same snacks repeatedly, your children might get bored and ask for unhealthy snacks instead. Dress up fruits and vegetables for maximum appeal and just see how your kids rave over them. But you can't expect your kid to be content with carrots and low-fat milk when you're washing down your potato chips with cocoa dusted truffles.
Don't forget snacks are unhealthy for you too. A healthy snack offers something to our diet too. So keep your kitchen filled with a variety of easy and delectable snacks and say a big no to potato chips, nuts and chocolates. Remember to eat healthy to stay healthy.
