Saint Patrick is one of the most widely known of the saints and is the patron Saint of Ireland. Some of the details of his life are a bit unkown and maybe exaggerated but this is very common for someone who lived in the early years AD and whose life story was passed down through oral storytelling and not as a written legend. We do know that Saint Patrick was in a large way responsible for the growth of Christianity in the part of the world we know as Ireland.
One famous story about Saint Patrick which is often reinforced with images is the tale that he drove all snakes from Ireland. While we know that this is not a true story the point is to highlight the kind nature and benevolence St. Patrick would have had for the people he lived with and taught.
Other traditions surrounding St Patricks Day and the gift giving of this day, such as the color green and the shamrock symbolizing good luck, have all been added over time to give extra energy and enthusiasm to this day of national Irish pride. In the end St. Patricks Day is a day of celebration and that normally calls for raising a few pints of beer. While all things are good in moderation this year you can consider buying an appropriate Saint Patricks Day present for a friend instead of that one last round which may just be one too many.
