The 80s saw the emergence of freestyle, dance-punk and electronic music styles. Each genre left its own mark on the world of music.
Freestyle is also known as the Latin Freestyle or Latin Hip-Hop. The style is derived from Electronic music. The 1970s Disco and 1980s Electro gave birth to this style of music. |

The Hispanic population of Chicago readily accepted it and it reached its peak in 87. Even the much-hyped Florida Breaks is an outcome of the genre.
The 80s Electro, which had the quality of Sampling, just as in Hip-Hop, got famous among the break-dancers. Freestyle music based on house is called the Freestyle-House.
Another form that evolved during this time is Dance-punk or dancepunk, popularly known as disco-punk. Other names of the genre are Punk-funk, Dance-rock, etc. The style consists of the rhythms of Electronic Dance music and Punk Rock aesthetics and other instrumentation. This style has such a close resemblance to New-Wave, Electro-Rock, Electroclash, Electro-pop, Synthpop, and Synth-Rock, that it appears to belong to the same family. The origin of the form goes back to the New York and England of 1970s. We find an indiscriminate use of disco and funk in the music of CHIC. German artist Nina Hagen came out with a huge dance hit " New York New York" in 1983 that consisted a fine blend of punk vocals, disco, funk and hip-hop. A few bands such as Bush Tetras, Raybeats, Fleshtones dominated the 1980s 'funk world'.
Popularity of dance-punk started waning when Hip-Hop, Techno, etc., came to the fore in the 80s.
History has seen the rise and fall of a lot many forms of dance music. But if any genre that has left its mark on the dance form of the 20th century is of course the ones from the 70s and the 80s. Dance form has gone through a sea change from the 70s till now. Rhythms have grown faster. With the changing need of the dance and changing taste of the dance aficionados, dance-music has undergone a process of change. With the twists and turns of dance forms the change in the music comes naturally. But no other genre have been able to remain as relevant till now as the one's from the 80s music. Irony is it was never a huge hit like discos of the 70s.
